Meditation has been around for hundreds of years and has many benefits including reducing anxiety, increases your productivity and makes you happier. The idea of meditation can be daunting, but there are lots of step by step guides where you can learn the art of meditation.

The Mindfulness App

If you’ve previously practiced meditation and aren’t looking for guided exercises, this service might be for you. It allows you to create a custom session with flexible time periods, from 3 to 30 minutes in length, and select sounds like bells to best fit your needs. A premium subscription unlocks full courses on developing focus if that interests you, but the free version still allows you to integrate your phone’s health app to keep an eye on how long you’ve meditating throughout the week.

Calm App

An app available through your phone, Calm is the number one app for meditation and sleep. The App has various mediation courses whether you’re a beginner or an expert and range from all different lengths to fit in with your busy lifestyle. The app has a free seven day trial and then if you’re happy to proceed the annual subscription is £28.99.

West London Buddhist Centre

If you’re looking for a more face-to-face learning experience the West London Buddhist Centre offer drop-in meditation sessions where you can meet other people on their own meditation journey.

Yoga

There’s some evidence that regular yoga practice is beneficial for people with high blood pressure, heart disease, aches and pains – including lower back pain – depression and stress.

There’s lots of yoga studios to choose from around the capital, one well known organisation is Triyoga based near oxford Street. Classes run every hour, 7 days a week, so you’ll have plenty of choice.
